Our Philosophy
Expert witnesses are used in technology and engineering disputes to define a problem, and provide an opinion based on assessment of the available facts and, perhaps most importantly, explain that opinion to the court. The issue at hand may be an enigma where the parties have been unable to bring common sense to a situation. Expert witnesses may come from many different backgrounds; our experts have signficant industry experience in a number of engineering and technology fields and can provide expert testimony to help evaluate, analysis and critique the significance of basic facts. Our experts have the required attributes of being recognised practioners in their fields, are able to articulate an opinion clearly and persuasively, and can think clearly and correctly under cross-examination. Our philosophy is based on this. We know what we're talking about, can get the message across, and have the strength of argument to assure that position.

When you do make contact please be aware that although we will respond quickly, the first step is a quick assessment of the matter, followed by a conflict check, after which we will discuss the specifics further to review the form of an engagement.
Pro Bono
As well as offering discounted fees to charities and social enterprises, we undertake pro bono work – that is, work for which we do not charge a fee. This ranges from pro bono work on cases for organisations or individuals, through to volunteering for charities and other similar organisations. We recognise that pro bono work brings with it new experiences and insight and we value this opportunity. We aim to focus our pro bono activity where the need is greatest and where we can make the most effective contribution.
We will always aim to help, when possible, but unfortunately are not able to take on all the requests we receive for pro bono work. Broadly speaking, these are the criteria we use to determine whether we can offer pro bono expert or alternative dispute resolution services:
- Ability to fund by the client – our focus for pro bono work is on those who cannot afford to pay for our services services, which may include examples such as charities and social enterprises.
- Our capacity and competence to undertake the work – sometimes we cannot accept new pro-bono instructions because we are already committed to other pro bono or paid work; and sometimes we may not always be the most appropriate option.
- We may take on a matter pro bono if the matter is in the public interest, or contains important or novel points of interest.
- Early stage interest - when some initial pro bono support would assist an exciting or worthwhile project during it's early growth stages, we will look at the organisation's plans for the future to ensure that we focus our help on those organisations with the most viable plans and where our input can be most strategic.
- Our pro bono work is undertaken on a voluntary basis, so if a member of our team is willing to commit to a project that they are personally interested in, we are more likely to support them.
Please note that we receive many requests for pro bono advice. Most of our pro bono work is taken on through referrals from other organisations where we have an established relationship or through contacts with existing clients.
